Artist Statement

My paintings depict femininity through the metaphor of water. Water is strong, beautiful, unpredictable, dark, mysterious… all of which are adjectives associated with femininity. I find inspiration in the connection of water and woman often found in mythology, particularly, through stories of sirens and how they are represented. Sirens can be simultaneously threatening and seductive. My paintings depict waters that are cool and quiet, rhythmic, and vast, inviting and foreboding. Through these different themes, I create moments that reflect how people see and experience the many facets of femininity.
